Virgin Islands (Sea Kayaking)

Looking for a romantic outdoor vacation? Or maybe just some sun and beach time in the Caribbean? Join the Far Flung Outdoor Center on a five day, four night sea kayaking trip through the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Using the prevailing winds and currents, we paddle from island to island in 21' two-person touring kayaks. Spectacular sunsets, fresh seafood, isolated beaches, fantastic snorkeling and the Caribbean culture are waiting to be experienced!

Our trips are limited to a maximum of twelve guests, which allow us to comfortably camp on secluded beaches each night. We provide the kayaks, guides, meals, sleeping bags and pads, tents and waterproof bags. All you need to do is bring a few t-shirts, shorts, camera and your snorkel gear.

Sample Itinerary for a 5-Day Tour

Day 1

We meet at Big Planet Adventure Outfitters, a retail store in Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI at 7:00 a.m. After a brief introductory meeting, we'll travel by power boat to the customs house in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. After clearing customs, our captain will drop us off at Great Harbor on Peter Island- BVI. We'll spend a few hours getting acquainted with our boats and having lunch before paddling to our campsite on the other side of the island.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast and a couple of pots of coffee, we set out from camp to Pelican Island and the "Indians". Here we experience some of the most spectacular snorkeling in the Virgin Islands. From Pelican Island we paddle to Norman Island, the island upon which Robert Louis Stevenson based his novel Treasure Island. Anchored in the bay at Norman Island there is an trading ship, know as the William Thronton (or Willy T for short), which has been turned into a floating bar and restaurant. We'll stop here for lunch and a cold drink before returning to our campsite on Peter Island.

Days 3 and 4

Day 3 begins with a crossing of the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Our destination? The West End of Tortola - BVI. At the West End, we break for a couple of hours to rest, sight-see and have lunch. After our break in Tortola, we'll continue our paddling to White Bay, Jost Van Dyke- BVI. If you have ever pictured a white, uninhabited beach in the Caribbean, this is it! This is our layover beach for Day 4 - plenty of time to snorkel, hike the island and get that great tan your office mates will envy!

Day 5

From Jost Van Dyke, we cross from the British Virgin Island into U.S. territory. Before finishing at Cruz Bay, St. John we'll stop for lunch at Lovango Cay, Henley Cay, and some of St. John's beautiful north shore beaches. Once back in Cruz Bay, (usually between 2 and 4 p.m.), we clear customs, unpack our gear and head for overnight accommodations.

Please note that routes and itineraries may change due to weather and ocean conditions.
