About Far Flung's People

You won't find two people more in love with the natural beauty and history surrounding the Big Bend than Greg & Valynda Henington. They both left their banking jobs, Greg in Houston, and Valynda in Fort Davis, to settle in the last frontier of Terlingua, TX, as co-owners and managers of Far Flung Outdoor Center, formerly known as Texas River Expeditions.

It's been more than 20 years since Greg first started introducing people to the wonders of the Rio Grande River and taking them to see hidden little gems often overlooked by tourists. His study and expertise in wilderness medicine often has him answering medical emergencies, but he still loves getting his feet wet with river water and telling stories about the wilderness. Someday soon his writing ability and passion for the Big Bend will result in a book or two and a post as ambassador for the last frontier, but until then you can probably find him making sure everything runs perfectly.

Valynda won't tell you, but she's the reason people stick around to work for Greg (and probably the reason why he's still sane). She smoothes out all the details of answering phones, coordinating trips and making sure that everyone who goes on an adventure leaves with a smile on their face. If you get treated like you're part of the family (which you will), it's all her doing.

It wasn't until the fall of 2001 that Far Flung Outdoor Center officially became the name for the best outfitter in the Big Bend. Mark Evans, who still owns a part of the business and helps promote FFOC, started Texas River Expeditions back in 1974 with Greg joining him in 1986. Their merging of river and Jeep day tours with Far Flung Adventures' multi-day trips has resulted in the widest and most complete offering of outdoor experiences available in West Texas.

Come experience the majesty of this vast, untamed wilderness we love. Get to know a little bit about our wonderful staff and the amazing lives they've led. We'd love to introduce you to a place that leaves us in awe every day. Somehow everyone who comes here finds more than pretty pictures, they leave with the magic of the Big Bend having woven its story in with their own.
