Fun Facts about Boquillas Canyon:

Pronounced Bo-kee-yas, this is our favorite canyon journey. A river runner's dream with lots of side hikes, great campsites and plenty of paddling time.

Check out the shelter cave and large sand pile located on the Texas side just inside the canyon. The sand formation has occurred over thousands of years from river deposits. Boquillas means "little mouths" in Spanish and the canyon is well known (particularly at its entrance) for strong winds.

Check out the Rabbit Ear formation and the neat side canyon coming in from the Mexican side. A number of mammal tracks can be found in the sand and mud along the river bank. Tracks of coyotes, raccoons, ring-tailed cats, javelinas and mountain lions are most common - not to mention the tracks of Big Bend's large birding population.
