Wine Tasting on the River

"Wilderness is something other than our own." - Henry David Thoreau

This will be the best camp chow you've ever tasted. Many people believe river trips and outdoor adventure are synonymous with Spam, Beanee Weenees and white bread. For years, we at Far Flung have been saying that being outdoors doesn't mean you can't have the finest cuisine. To prove it, we are hosting our tenth annual "wine and dine" river trip.

Join us as we float through one of Big Bend's spectacular canyons where our guides will prepare fabulous meals while Greg Bruni, winemaker for Llano Estacado (pronounced yah-no), will talk about the varieties of wine we will enjoy.

Day 1

Departure Day. We'll meet at the FFOC office in Study Butte at 8:15 am to pack our gear and leave for the river. Our journey today takes us into true back-country wilderness. We'll stop along the way and enjoy a specially prepared river lunch. Our overnight camp will be setup in the canyon, so while you take the afternoon to hike, explore or just relax our staff will prepare a formal dinner. Wine of course, will be plentiful.

Day 2

This day finds us deeper in the canyon where the walls can rise up to 1500 feet. We'll stop for another river lunch before arriving at this evening's "canyon" camp. Greg Bruni, our wine master will introduce various "wines of the world" for your enjoyment.

Day 3

Floating out of the canyon today, we'll make our way to the take-out where FFOC staff will be waiting to take us back to Study Butte. Plan to arrive back at the FFOC office around 4:00 p.m.

Our guides are masters at preparing outdoor cuisine. From appetizers and salads to the main entrée, you will be amazed at what can come out of a wilderness kitchen. You won't be able to refuse our Dutch oven dessert creations!
